Chicago 2016 Olympics - Police Protest
Friday - Mar 27, 2009 - 11:20 AMThe Chicago Fraternal Order of Police has announced that it may organize a protest during the upcoming April visit of the International Olympic Committee in Chicago. The protest would be in response to the Mayor Daley's decision to cut back a proposed salary raise. If no agreement is reached before and the protest actually is executed it may have a negative effect on the Committee impressions about the city's preparedness for the serious olympic challenge.
This is the second recent initiative on the part of the Chicago Police that undermines the city's efforts to improve the public image of the local police force. Last week the same police organization has voted no-confidence for its chief Jody Weis. Weis has been nominated by Mayor Daley to serve a 3-year contract.
It remains to be seen how the relationship between the Chicago police and Daley develops but there are definitely some interesting dynamics to watch.
